Malachy James McElherron 1949-2014
Malachy founded Healey Care during 1996,with the residential home Healey House in Whitworth. Staying true to his personal values, he promoted high standards of care and support for people with learning disabilities, and helped to change their expectations for the future .
Through his undaunting positive approach and depth of personality, Malachy generated a great sense of ownership and loyalty within the support and management teams. He inspired people, if you can dream it, you can do it. He taught us to watch out for each other .
Malachy was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and over the following 11 years, he underwent 5 rounds of intensive treatment. He faced this with an amazing positive attitude and with a dignity and sense of humour that was admired by all those who knew him. In Malachy’s own words "Never give up". Malachy sadly passed away in September 2014 after almost 20 years of providing high quality care and support to many people during those years .
Malachy was the Captain of our ship, always a rainbow in other people’s clouds. He made things happen. We can’t change the direction of the wind but we can adjust our sails to always reach our destination. Nothing was impossible, the word itself says I’m possible!
For all the people who met and knew him, we’re sure you’ll agree he was a great man –once met , never to be forgotten .
