Philosophy of care

Our philosophy is based on principles that show a commitment to the rights and opportunities which are available to all people in our communities.

We believe that every person has equal value, rights, and potential, regardless of disability or complexity of need. Our service exists to support people to live meaningful, self‑directed lives, where they are respected, understood, and empowered to be active members of their communities.

We want everything we do to be driven the people we provide a service to; we recognise that this focus can slip and we will remain vigilant to ensure that the service, its policies and its activities, remain service user led.

We have embraced both the Personalisation and Co – Production Agenda, which aims to  the people we support and their families in control of current and future service provision.

We want everybody we support to be safe and well and will provide an open and transparent service and listen to people’s concerns

Quality Assurance

Healey Care Ltd recognises that internal audits are a way of improving standards, and regular and robust audit systems are the foundation of our good governance. The systems are based on a clear set of standards which are a reference point in deciding whether conditions are acceptable or not. We will at times, request the support of our other registered manager colleagues from our wider services to carry out these audits as an ‘independent’ oversight.

Service user led meetings take place regularly to encourage individual’s and their families or their representatives to make decisions on day-to-day matters, celebration planning, contributing to their home and general service development

We work in partnership with other organisations to monitor and audit person centred service delivery.

To ensure that service users and family members are involved in the planning, monitoring and reviewing of services, regular forums are held to ascertain feedback on the service we provide, including suggestions for improvement and future development. We also hold an open drop-in session on the last Wednesday of each month where parent and representatives can call in to see us and share their ideas and comments.
Each service has quality assurance compliance visits from all the commissioning bodies that we work with. The Care Quality Commission, our regulatory body have a programme of inspection, and all inspection reports are available for viewing on the CQC.org website and copies are retained within each service and will be available upon request.

Assessment

HCL have an assessment process that is followed, prior to any offer of placement within the service. The persons care manager will complete an assessment of need, which we use as a first line assessment as it will identify the individual’s personal support and care requirements and give an overview on the level of support needed. We will then make further assessments, and we will then make a formal decision around whether we can meet this person’s care and support needs. The manager responsible for that assessment with then either make an offer of service or give a full rational for why an offer was unable to be made at that time.

We will ensure that our support teams are trained, supervised and competent to provide a range of quality support for people to meet their individual needs. With consideration to everyone’s assessment of need, staff may require additional specific training and guidance prior to us delivering a service to that person.

Staff that provide personal care services will have their practice guided by values, and will;

  • Encourage individuals to express their choice of where, when, how and by whom they receive their personal care.
  • Ensure the dignity of the individual is given high priority when any aspect of personal care is provided.
  • Enable the people we support to care for themselves wherever possible and maintain or develop their independence
  • Provide support and care in such a way that embraces their diversity and meets the personal, emotional and cultural values of an individual as well as their physical needs
  • Each person we support will have a person-centred and co – produced plan which will showcase their individual personal support requirements
